DIMAPUR — The second edition of the M Chuba Meritorious Award, under the aegis of Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), recognising the highest scorer among the Yimkhiung tribe in the HSLC examination, aided by the M Chuba family, was held at the DUDA guest house in Kohima.
According to a press release, Khalenmew, a member of the talk team from the Eastern Naga People’s Organisations (ENPO), attended the programme as the guest speaker.
The programme was also attended by delegates from the Yimkhiung Gazetted Officers’ Association (YGOA), Yimkhiung Union Kohima (YUK), Yimkhiung Baptist Boru Kohima, and Yimkhiung Students’ Union Kohima.
The awardee for this year was Tsiurile V Thonglii, a student of Little Flower School Kohima and a resident of Pungro. Thonglii was awarded a cash prize of INR 1 lakh, a citation, and a memento for securing the 4th rank (97.80%) in the recently declared HSLC results.
Addressing the audience, guest speaker Khalenmew extended congratulations to the awardee and voiced apprehension regarding students who drop out or fail, stressing the necessity for appropriate mechanisms to support them. He called upon YAA officials and the church to unite efforts and develop effective strategies to tackle educational challenges in the region.
Chingmak Chang, President of ENSF, spoke on the occasion about mental health, highlighting the prevalence of stress and anxiety among today's youth in the competitive pursuit of excellence. He urged students to be vigilant about their mental well-being, emphasising its significant negative impact on individuals. Furthermore, he encouraged them to maintain a positive outlook and stay focused on their life goals.
The occasion also featured a speech by Tsiurile, reflecting on her journey to securing the 4th position in the HSLC examination. She shared the challenges and obstacles she faced along the way, stressing that it was through God's constant guidance and her own perseverance and consistent efforts that she was able to overcome them and achieve success.
During the programme, Dr. Berimong, son of the late M Chuba, provided an overview of his father's life. Additionally, brief speeches were given by the president of ENSF, a representative from YUK, and an official from YGOA.
