Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): Objecting, to what it said was, the alleged government’s plan to construct an iron bridge Sanuorü, the Tsieramia Youth Organisation (TYO) on Sat. said that the proposed bridge over Sanuorü river should be constructed as per the specified criteria and that the organisation will not allow any alterations in the work order issued in July 2016.
A press release issued by the TYO President, Neirükuolie Yhome and General Secretary Vitshu Vizo stated on ‘certain rumours’ being circulated that the Tsieramia Youth Organisation is obstructing the construction of the bridge at Sanuorü. It clarified that neither the Tsieramia Youth Organization (TYO) nor the Tsieramia Council or the land owners had ever obstructed or prevented the contractor in starting the construction of the bridge.
It clarified that some youths of Tsieramia community in their own individual capacity requested for the contract work but were not allocated as they did not possess the requisite qualifications to construct the bridge. Nonetheless, it was communicated to the chief engineer, PWD (R and B) that they do not have objection of awarding the contract to any qualified contractor as long as the work starts at the earliest and the bridge constructed as per the specifications and finished within the stipulated time. Accordingly, the work order was allotted to the contractor in July 2016, the release stated.
However, the TYO lamented that even after a lapse of two years since the work order was issued, the construction work has barely began. Instead, the government is planning to construct a steel bridge, the TYO alleged.
Therefore, the organisation while asserting that the bridge must be constructed as per the specified criteria and that it will not allow any alteration in the work order, the TYO appealed the government and the contractor to start the work at the earliest.
Nonetheless, the organisation offered its fullest cooperation to the government saying that it is fully aware of the urgent need of the bridge and also of the difficulties being faced by the public because of the damage of ‘this particular road’.
