DIMAPUR — Tseminyu
district observed World AIDS Day on Saturday at Tseminyu town hall on the theme
"Take the right path."
Speaking at the programme, the District AIDS Control Officer
DISHA Cluster/ DAPCU, Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, said that the world can end AIDS
only when everyone is well aware of the disease. He stated that the substantial
progress made in the HIV response is directly linked to progress in protecting
human rights.
Kithan stated that upholding everyone's human rights is
essential for an effective HIV response. He further stated that World AIDS day
is a call to take action to protect everyone's health by protecting everyone's
rights.
In his short speech, the EAC of Tseminyu, Ruokuosetuo Tetso,
said the programme is the first of its kind in the district. He stated that
Tseminyu, being a new district, has the responsibility to ensure that everyone
regardless of its background have access to information, care and support to
live a healthy life.
He also called upon the public to fight HIV/AIDS through
education and awareness campaigns, combat stigma and encourage early testing
and treatment. He further urged each one not to discriminate against them but
instead embrace with compassion and understanding.
The programme was chaired by ICTC counselor of Tseminyu,
Bensinle Magh, while songs were presented by members of KRIPA foundation,
Tseminyu, and MT Terogvi Theological, Tseminyu, and concluded with a vote of
thanks delivered by district programme officer of DISHA/DAPCU, Sentimongla
Tzudir.
