Today, my opening word is something beautiful I have been meditating on the last two days.
“You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favour] shall shine upon your ways”.
What does that mean and where did I find that,and why that quote?
As you can guess, that quote is not just a quote. It is a verse from the eternal Truth of God’s Word, the Bible.
Why that quote?
Because when I step into 2026, I am decreeing that the light of God’s favour will indeed shine upon my ways. So, I will go the right way and therefore help many others - now walking in darkness -find their way to that marvellous light of God’s glory.
What is first? I am the one deciding, what I want decreed. Decreed actually means I cut of other things I do not want to happen. Decree is not just” saying it”. It is a strong verbal statement I would make, one thing I would like to see happening and then trusting it shall be fulfilled like I said it. Therefore, instead of darkness, light will start shining. That then, makes me careful to decree according to God’s heart and what He would like to see happening? Why? Don’t I have a choice in the matter? Yes. I do. However, why would I want darkness in my life if I can have the light all around me? Light makes life so much easier. Groping in the darkness is no fun and dreadful to many.
Established means “arise, become powerful”. That is a “wow” to me! The words I decree become powerful! So, I better make sure I decree truth, light, life! I already know that death and life are in the power of MY tongue. Meaning if I speak words of death or negative things or pessimistic things, they too have a way of coming to pass. I have learned that if someone states: ‘Oh no, there is a storm coming to calmly say” No! Not here! Rain can only be a blessing here! “Or someone says: “We are going to fail”.“I will say”, “Who said? We did our part. We will pass!”.
I still have to correct myself at times to not speak those negative words or make those gloomy statements. I am getting better at looking for the positive and to rejoice even if it looks bleak, trusting in a God that truly loves me and who in all these years never failed me and always came through for us no matter how bleak. After getting married, then learned with my dear husband and continue to learn to be positive and speak positive. As well as to stay calm and control our emotions when things do not go our way. Tests are still there. And will likely continue. Which is a good thing because that makes us wiser and sharper.
The context of that beautiful statement above is the following God told Job: First God points out the attitude of those who are against God. 22: 17 They said to God, depart from us, and, what can the Almighty do for or to us? (18 Yet He filled their houses with good [things]. But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me. (me is God Himself)
19 The righteous see it and are glad; (the people who have their heart in the right place and will say the right thing) *and the innocent laugh them(the righteous) to scorn [saying],
“20 Surely those who rose up against us are cut off, and that which remained to them the fire has consumed.” (In other words, in all their trouble they will get more trouble)
But here comes the good news: If we are on God’s side: He is on our side: He will tell the righteous:
21 Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you.
22 Receive, I pray you, the law and instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart. (That is the condition)
* 23 If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up; if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents,(Another condition- Get on God’s side. Run away from that which is not right)
24 If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth],(Is gold that much worth to you that it becomes bigger thanGod almighty?)
25 And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure,(If God is our source, we have it all, the gold, riches AND His favour- The question what are we running after? God? Or this world?)
26 Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.(And you will not be afraid to look in His face!)
27 You will make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows.(you will be confident, He is listening!)
28 You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favour] shall shine upon your ways.(Here the beautiful promise! Decree it- NOW you will be confident to decree what you desire because you are right with God!)
29 When they make [you] low, you will say, [There is] a lifting up; and the humble person He lifts up and saves.(You look UP to a loving God, who will lift you above those who want to put you down)
30 He will even deliver the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.(Forgive those who wronged you and bring them before God. He even will listen for them!)
As you ponder on all these words this week, end this year right with a God you can trust. He is on your side if you get on HIS side! THAT is true freedom!
