Here an interesting question that most of you will most likely answer “yes” to.

Did you ever fall sick from one moment to the next? Most will say “Yes, quite often I do or think I will get sick”. Some will say: “Sometimes”. Hardly anyone will mention: “Never”.

Let’s turn it around. Did you ever “rise well” from one moment to the next? Most will say “I can’t remember”. Others: “Is that even possible?” Hardly anyone: “Many a time”.

Why such a difference?

With all the media apps and ads that will tell you how you should feel, which test you “must take”, watch out for which symptom, the huge list of tests Drs these days prescribe just to “make sure”, is there any hope to live a life of health or what I call “Divine Health?”

Historically, a man, Jesus Christ, truly lived on earth 2000+ years back. Besides the Bible, there are plenty of non followers of Jesus Christ who lived at that time and recorded their own findings and conclusions.

The question of course arises “Who was that man? Was He the Son of God and like God, or just a mere man, who nevertheless lived a miraculous life?

What we focus on today is: Did this man, ever fall sick? AKA at that time as the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, Jesus the Nazarene and the Son of God.

Did He or did He not fall sick? The answer will surprise you. Did He take care of His body or he did not have to because He was the Son of God?

On earth, He was a three part being just like we are – Spirit, Soul and body. We ought to take care of all three parts and so did Jesus.

How should we take care of our being?

1.     Our Spirit Being- If you are a believer in another faith, you will have your own way of taking care of your spirit. As a believer of Jesus Christ this is your package: Meditation on Who God is, Why He created us, Fellowship with God, Talking and listening to Him, (Jesus) reading His Word and putting it into practice (with the help of the Holy Spirit) is taking care of your spirit. All religions or “Faiths” agree it is important to take care of our spiritual life in order to stay healthy

2.     Our Soul- Different from our spirit-Other religions club soul and spirit together as one and the same. But our soul contains our will, emotions, intellect and conscience or our mind. It is what helps us make choices, hopefully the right ones. It is the part of the body which we can train. Instead of letting it have “Its own mind”, we can choose to train it, to think what WE want to think and choose right of what our conscience tells us. It is the bridge between the body and the spirit (which is the real us)

3.     Our Body- Our true being (our spirit men or women) lives in our body. It is actually last on the list. It should be the easiest to get trained by our soul but seems to be the most difficult. Because it is often ruled by our obvious senses- what we see, hear, smell, taste and feel. Can we choose to control those senses? Of course. We can chose what we see (you are the one to watch things that are either edifying and helping you to be a better person or not), hear (you are the one listening to what you want to listen to), taste (you are the one putting it in your mouth or putting it to your mouth) touch (you are the one choosing what to touch or not to).

That takes discipline. I saw a testimony today of a man who was 103 year old. At 69 he was diagnosed with cancer. Instead of despairing, he made choices that made him the vibrant man and inspiration to many today. Ever heard of someone who till the age of 98 ran 10 miles, three times a week? Still climbs 48 stairs daily? Sleeps well 7-9 hours every night? And has a humble simple diet since he was 69 and changed his lifestyle? (steamed veggies, brown rice and half a cup of  brown beans), lots of outdoors nature walks, and I am sure lots of meditation with it.

He overcame because he chose to do so.

Did Jesus take care of His body, soul and spirit? Yes: He walked a lot from village to village, up and down mountains, ministering to many, teaching, preaching, healing, caring, giving food and so much more. Mostly outdoors.

He slept well. If you can sleep well in a boat that is about to capsize, you can sleep well! He ate well, he loved bread and fish. He had fellowship with the Father and fellowshipped with God the Father before everyone else got up (He probably went to sleep early)

So did Jesus fall sick?

Not during His ministry but from the time He entered Gethsemane (Jerusalem) just before He was taken captive, the night before His crucifixion, till the time He died, sickness entered twice. Why? Because he choose to! So we do not have to.

In the garden of Gethsemane where He secluded himself with the disciples for a time of prayer, His emotional health was attacked with fear and wanting to choose a different path to suffer for us- which He knew He had to. He overcame that with His will.

Once He surrendered, peace came and angels ministered to Him for the next phase. Roman guards took him captive and after an unfair judgement He was brutally flogged and Jesus “fell sick”. All imaginable sickness entered His body so badly, He became unrecognizable (See Isaiah 52). That means your cancer, high BP, muscle weakness, liver sickness, kidney problems, stomach and ulcer problems, AIDS, Down Syndrome and the list goes on. He took it IN his body so we do not have to. Can you surrender that sickness to Him and say confidently: “I am healed by His striped whether I feel it or not. Because he said so!”

From there He walked (how He could even do that after that flogging and with so much pain, I can’t fathom) to Golgotha, was nailed to the cross WITH all that sickness and became sin when the wrath of God was poured on Him in those final moments. Again: All those sins, wrongdoings, thoughts and actions and words, we thought, said and did were taken by Him. When He died though He did not leave those sins and sickness on the cross. He took it straight to hell and LEFT it there where it belongs and came OUT without it.

That is the great mystery. The biggest difference we as Christians can proclaim is “We have a risen God, Saviour, who is now healthy and well and who wants to live in and through us to make sure we are healthy and well too!

So yes, Jesus fell sick because He chooses to, for you and me.

Now accept it.

And boldly say: “By His stripes my body and soul is healed, By His death and resurrection, my spirit is healed”

Accept what He did for you! And like Him you can live this life, healthy and well. Body, soul and spirit! So you can end your race well and hear His joyful greeting: "Well done!"

Blessings
