Trump facing people’s wrath

- Within 10 weeks of returning to power, US President Donald
Trump is facing huge resentments as the Americans are on the streets protesting
against the present regime’s undemocratic style of functioning. On Saturday
last, thousands of Americans gathered in more than 1200 places all over the
country including in the National Mall situated just stone throw away from the
White House, to express their anger at decisions such as reciprocal tariff,
forceful deportation of illegal immigrants and new citizenship rule, etc. The
protestors in unison have described Trump’s rule as fascist in nature, where
popular voices are being deliberately ignored by a group of powerful people.
According to the people voicing their anger against the Trump regime, the
incumbent US President is ruining the country’s reputation as the global leader
and even creating divisions among the citizens. Although the protestors have
stopped short of demanding the resignation of the President, it goes beyond
saying that they will be the happiest lot if it becomes a reality. Moreover,
protests against Trump’s policies are not only confined to the US, similar
protests have been reported from countries such as England and Germany. All
together an anti-Trump feeling is spreading fast in the world and the US
President has to mend his ways if he intends to silence his critics.
- Among the President’s decisions, the new tariff plan is
going to upend the global economic order, a transformation which will have
wider political ramifications, the beginning of which has already been made
with popular protests that America has perhaps witnessed for the first time
after the infamous Vietnam War. As a matter of fact, Trump’s vision of making
the US great and powerful is a hollow one and goes against the very idea of globalisation,
which is the key to take the modern world forward. Instead of thinking about
the welfare of the country, President Trump seems to be more interested in
providing benefits to his friends, who are involved in major policy decisions
without being elected or being accountable to anyone, making a mockery of the
democratic set up of the country. For instance, Trump’s decision to impose
higher tariff on imported cars is not meant to help America’s automobile
industry, but to favour his friend and trusted lieutenant Elon Musk, who is
facing a stiff challenge from China in the electric vehicle sector, which will
probably dominate the world roads in near future to counter the threat of
global warming as it is fast becoming a reality.
- Clearly within a couple of months of taking over the reins
of the US, Donald Trump has transformed the country from a being democratic
nation to technocracy as is evident from the rise of Elon Musk or other
advisors, on whom the President is banking now disregarding democratic heritage
of the country. On the contrary, the US President is virtually dismantling
democracy by adhering to his friends who have very little respect for
democracy. With the mandate in his favour, it was expected that Trump would
make efforts for socio-political evolutions, but quite sadly he is thinking
about profits only.
