Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): The Kohima District Truck Drivers and Owners’ Union, Dimapur District Truck Owners’ Association, Dimapur Truck Drivers’ Union and Pfutsero Town Truck Owners and Drivers’ Union have urged the state government to revoke the order prohibiting movement vehicles beyond three axles along NH-29 for one month, with effect from Oct. 13 midnight.
In a joint statement, the unions said that movement of the three-axle vehicles was restricted without giving any valid reason.
It said that the order would hamper the business of the transporters, vehicle owners, drivers and consumers as a whole. The unions also asked the government to consider allowing “underload” vehicles to pass the national highway without any restriction or prohibition if load limit is as per the government guidelines.
It may be mentioned that the state government issued a notification on October 6 prohibiting the movement of vehicles beyond three axles from Dimapur-Kohima-Khuzama from October 13 midnight to November 13.
It however stated that heavy vehicles carrying materials, equipment or goods meant for the ongoing capital connectivity project for board gauge new line from Dhansiri to Zubza by Northeast Frontier Railway could ply on the National Highway stretch from Dimapur up to Molvom or Pherima.
It stated that the load being carried by such vehicles should be within the limits as provided in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules,1989.
