Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): Amidst the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country, there are fears and apprehension among the people concerning the truck drivers coming into Nagaland with essential commodities.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Anoop Khinchi informed that the truck drivers entering the state with essential commodities were being screened at all points; and protocols and safety measures were being followed.
Agriculture Production Commissioner and over all in-charge of Dimapur district for Covid-19, Y Kikheto Sema told this newspaper that the ‘truck drivers with the essential commodities were travelling throughout the country and every state has its own protocol, which are being followed as no state would risk to let the truck drivers pass through the gates without checking their health. Likewise even our state is following the protocol without taking any chances’.
“There are lots of assumptions going on because of the situation. How can we stop the essential commodities’ trucks just because of our assumptions? We are all following the guidelines and making sure that the truck drivers are free from any health issues. They should also be lauded for the services being rendered,” he said.
Dimapur, he said has a lot of responsibility as the commercial hub of the state. ‘So we need the co-operation of everyone. Nagaland and Assam is closely co-ordinating with each other for the safety of the people as we share borders,’ he added.
On the report of some people taking shelter in the essential commodities’ truck to sneak into the state, he clarified that so far, no such cases have been reported and the frontline workers who are on duty would not let anyone pass through the gate without permit.
