Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): The office of the sub-divisional agriculture officer (SDAO) in Nuiland conducted a one day training on organic farming for farmers of Hakhizhe Cluster on Oct. 13 under Mission Organ Value Chain Development (MOVCD) for North-eastern region.
The SDAO, Nuiland, L. Kivika Chophi highlighted the harmful effects of agro chemicals such as pesticides, insecticides and weedicides to the environment, soil and human health and cited various reasons why one should start taking up organic cultivation. He also highlighted the status and scope of organic farminf in Nagaland.
The objectives of MOVCD for the Northeastern region scheme were also imparted to the farmers.
The technical session was lead by Imkongyanger, Agriculture Inspector. He spoke on the principles and process of organic certification under various standards. He highlighted the packages and practices of organic turmeric cultivation with emphasis on varietal selection, insect, pest, disease and nutrient management. A total of 50 registered organic farmers from Hakhizhe Cluster attended the training.
