DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 20
Parliamentary Working Committee of the Joint Legislators’ Forum on Naga political Issue today met senior Trinamool Congress leader and former Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi this afternoon at Kolkata and had a “fruitful” discussion with him on not only the ongoing Naga political dialogue but various other issues pertaining to the State, according to a press note from the CMO.
Trivedi, who represented Trinamool chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee who was heavily engaged in electoral programmes, assured the PWC delegation not only to support peaceful and honourable resolution of the prolonged Naga political problem as and when it comes up to the Parliament for final settlement, but also volunteered to lobby with other like-minded political parties in the country to support the Naga cause.
Trinamool Congress, which has 12 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, wields quite a clout in the Parliament.
“I can be the spokesperson for the Naga cause”, he volunteered and asked the delegates to brief him not only about the political issue but other developmental works such as rail and road connectivity.
Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang expressed strong conviction that the most feasible road and rail connectivity with the Southeast Asian countries would be through Nagaland to the border town of Moreh via Imphal.
It may be mentioned here that the first official task Mr Trivedi took up during his short stint as Union Minister for Railways during UPA II regime was to visit Nagaland to flag off the now-popular Nagaland Express connecting Dimapur with Guwahati.
Trivedi was personally detailed by the Trinamool chief to deliberate with the PWC delegates. He, accompanied by a few top leaders of the Trinamool Congress, hosted the team to lunch at the Bengal Club in which both sides found sufficient time to share views and opinions.
“We had a fruitful discussion with the Trinamool leaders and we are quite happy”, said a PWC member.
The delegation is scheduled to return to Nagaland on Sunday.
