Dimapur, March 10 (EMN): Former chief minister of Nagaland Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu has expressed apprehension that the ‘strong’ fabric of Naga society is being destroyed by tribalism. The veteran has urged the Tenyimia people to ‘find the roots of their evolution and work toward preserving the values of unity and integrity of the Naga people.’ He has urged the people to ‘develop a sense of respect for elders too, which he called ‘the foundation of a good thriving society.’
Addressing the 50th year golden jubilee of the Tenyiphe village council on March 10, Leizietsu, also the president of academic group the Ura Academy. This was stated in a press release issued by the media bureau of the Naga People’s Front on Saturday.
Narrating various events of his life as a politician and an academician, Liezietsu said Ura Academy was formed during a tumultuous time.
“In the year 1970, some scholars and intellectuals came up with the idea of setting up an Angami literature committee with Mrs Bilieu, Rev. Tsolie and myself as its pioneers with an objective to preserve and promote the Tenyidie dialect as a means to bring all the Tenyimia speaking people together under one fold,” he said.
Saying that a time had come for all the Tenyimia peoples to united and build a strong society ‘that can withstand all adversaries,’ he emphasised on the importance of maintaining identity and ‘dignity.’ He has urged the younger generation to ‘uphold and protect their roots so that that outside forces do not come in to dominate or manipulate the people in their own land.’
He expressed happiness at Tenyiphe village for keeping “strict vigil in conducting business of the house in pure and undiluted Tenyidie thereby preserving the rich and revered dialect for posterity.”
