Transport authority fixes statewide taxi, carrier fares

EMN Dimapur, February 24 [dropcap]C[/dropcap] [dropcap][/dropcap]oming as a huge sigh of relief for the public who have been suffering from the exorbitant and often illegal fares charged by taxis and carries, the Nagaland Transport Authority on Tuesday issued an order revising the fares for ‘contract carriages’ i.e., taxis and goods carriers across the state. Transport Commissioner & Member Secretary of the State Transport Authority, H. Achumi issued a notification on February 24 exercising powers conferred under section 67 (1) (i) of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.The Nagaland Transport Authority has fixed the maximum fares and freights for taxis and goods carriage for all routes within the state as follows with immediate effect. 1. Contract Carriage (Taxi) i) Seating Capacity up to 4 @ Rs. 3.00 per km per passenger (Less than 100 km) @ Rs. 2.50 per km per passenger (More than 100 km) ii) Seating Capacity of 5 & above @ Rs. 3.00 per km per passenger (Less than 100 km) @ Rs. 2.20 per km per passenger (More than 100 km) 2. Goods Carriage (By authorized pay load) i) Heavy (More than 9000 kg) @ Rs. 60/- per km ii) Medium (More than 3000 kg but less than 9000 kg) @ Rs. 30/- per km iii) Light (Less than 3000) @ Rs. 22/- per km
