Trainings on soybean cultivation held in Niuland district
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Soybean, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (NU), Medziphema Campus organised farmers' training programmes at Kiyezu A and Viyito villages, both located in Niuland district

- DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Soybean,
School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (NU), Medziphema Campus,
under the TSP (Tribal Sub Plan), organised farmers' training programmes at
Kiyezu A and Viyito villages, both located in Niuland district, on March 25.
- The programmes aimed at uplifting the socio-economic status
of tribal farmers in Nagaland through various soybean-based interventions,
stated an update. The programme at Kiyezu A village was followed by one at
Viyito village.
- At the two separate events, the significance of soybean
cultivation, emphasising its potential beyond traditional fermented soybean
products like Axone, was highlighted. Brief remarks were delivered by the
respective GBs of the two villages.
- The resource persons for the technical sessions, conducted
separately for both villages, were Dr. Engrala Ao, junior scientist (Agronomy);
Dr. Pezangulie Chakruno, junior scientist (Plant Pathology); and Dr. Sibino
Dolie, technical assistant. Dr. Ao made a presentation on the production
technology of soybeans and encouraged the farmers to practise line sowing with
proper plant spacing.
- Dr. Chakruno educated the farmers on the biological management
of important pests and diseases of the soybean crop, while Dr. Dolie
demonstrated the making of various value-added soybean products. Following the
vote of thanks, agricultural inputs were distributed to the farmers.
- The programmes were coordinated by the respective GBs of
Viyito and Kiyezu A villages. In total, 50 farmers attended the training
programme at Viyito village and 63 farmers at Kiyezu A village.
