- DIMAPUR — A
two-day training on the operations and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV)
systems and Saura e-Mitra was conducted on June 11 and 12 at the CMO office conference
hall, Tuensang.
- According to an update, the event was held in the presence
of Dr. Talitemsu Ozukum, Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Dr. Ayangla Saku,
District Programme Officer (DPO) CD-1 and District Nodal Officer National
Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH); and Dr. John Shupao,
epidemiologist National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (IDSP),
with participation from health staff across the district.

Officials, dignitaries, health staff, and others during the
training on operations and maintenance of solar PV systems organised by NPCCHH
and SELCO Foundation in Tuensang.
- The training was jointly facilitated by SELCO Foundation and
NPCCHH.
- In his keynote address, Dr Ozukum lauded SELCO Foundation
and NPCCHH for initiating the training, noting its importance in ensuring
uninterrupted health services, especially in remote and off-grid areas, and
stressed its importance as many health facilities in the district are
solar-powered.
- He emphasised the need for health staff to understand basic
operations and maintenance and encouraged participants to engage actively and
ask questions.

- Rose, state project manager from SELCO Foundation, gave a
brief introduction to the foundation and its initiatives in the state. She also
shared an overview of the training, its importance for health staff, and
highlighted the designated district-level officials who will be the points of
contact for troubleshooting and follow-up support.
- She spoke about the Saura e-Mitra app, which is designed to
effectively handle, track, and resolve issues related to decentralised
renewable energy systems for public healthcare.
- Stating that this platform ensures prompt and efficient
management of issues, enhancing reliability and sustainability, she noted that
Saura e-Mitra will streamline incident reporting and resolution processes,
improve the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy products in
healthcare settings, and ultimately enhance the quality of healthcare services
provided.
- The training aimed to equip health staff with essential
knowledge and skills to operate and maintain the solar PV systems installed in
their respective health facilities. These solar systems, installed through
collaborative efforts, are powering critical health infrastructure across the
state.
- At present, a total of 524 health facilities across the
state have been solar powered through the combined efforts of SELCO Foundation,
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Nagaland Health Project in
collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
- As part of the larger state initiative, plans are underway
to bring all solar-powered health centres under a single operational framework.
Moving forward, all health staff working in solar-electrified health centres
across the districts will undergo phase-wise training on basic operations and
preventive maintenance of the systems.
- A total of 77 health staff from 41 solar-powered health
centres under Tuensang district attended the training.
