Dimapur, July 27 (EMN): A two-day training programme for farmers on Persimmon cultivation was conducted at Horticulture Research Farm (HRF), Pfutsero, on July 25 and 26.
According to the horticulture officer, Senti Longchar, the training programme was first of its kind in the State organized by HRF in collaboration with the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema.
Dr. NK Patle, Director in-charge of CIH, Medziphema, in his keynote address, stated that Pfutsero area has a huge potential for development of temperate fruits like kiwi, peach, plum, pears, apple and also persimmon fruit. He also encouraged the department and the district administration to organise a mega event of buyers and sellers meet in the coming days to create more exposure and opportunities to the farmers.
Zeneikhonuo Vimero, ADC Pfutsero, also exhorted the participants from various villages to seriously take up projects in order to uplift the economy of the farming community.
The main resource person of the training programme was Dr. Rinku Bharali, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, Horticulture, KVK Phek. He spoke on nursery management, propagation, cultivation techniques and value addition of persimmon fruit.
Field visit and demonstration was conducted by Kewecheu Khlao, Horticulture Inspector, who also delivered the vote of thanks. The training programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to about 100 famers by Moalemba, DHO Phek.
