Dimapur, July 29 (EMN): Three-day induction training of panel lawyers on lawyering skills, organised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the Department of Justice and Law concluded at Directorate of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Kohima on July 29.
Speaking on welfare schemes, director of Social Welfare Department, T Merang Aier highlighted welfare programmes for women and child, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and grant-in-aid programmes.
He expounded on national social assistance programme such as Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS), Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) and National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS).
The director mentioned that in the State a total number of 48 NGOs are being provided grant-in-aid presently, while there are Women Commission, Social Welfare Board, Child Right, Child Protection, Disability Commission, schemes under MoSJE and MoTA.
He also informed those in need of disability appliances could avail at the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) Dimapur.
Appraising on the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), he urged the panel lawyers to work with the community and sensitise on the schemes available for the common man under the Department of Social Welfare. Further, he asked panel lawyers to encourage Anganwadi workers in their respective district to render service to the masses.
Earlier, legal aid counsel-cum-trainer, Ashu Theyo spoke on basic knowledge in criminal law (Criminal Jurisprudence on Bail, Plea Bargaining and Rights of an arrested person); legal aid counsel-cum-trainer, NSLSA Lawyering, Joshua Sheqi spoke on Skill- Criminal (Drafting, Witness Examination and Arguments); master trainer, Tongpang L Jamir, spoke on law of persons with disabilities (Success stories related to Justice delivered to the disabled and master trainer, Cheliam Khiamniungan, presented on various legislations: Environmental laws / COTPA/ Food Security Act/ Senior Citizens etc.
Panel lawyers from each district shared “Best Practice”.
On the same day, Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted an essay competition for college students on topic ‘Fundamental Rights’.
Altogether 15 students five each from Fazl Ali College, People’s college and Jubilee Memorial College participated in the essay competition.
