Dimapur, Feb. 17 (EMN): With an aim to train the wives of police personnel in horticulture crops cultivation to increase their family income, a two-day farmers training programme on horticulture crops was held on February 13 and the 14th at Pfutsero.

The workshop was organised by the Officers’ Club Pfutsero in collaboration with SDPO Pfutsero and HRF Pfutsero under MIDH 2019-20 programme of the Horticulture department, informed DIPR in an update on Monday.

ADC Pfutsero, Phuleshe K Yepthomi told the participants during the inaugural function to be self-sufficient in their daily domestic requirements.

The update informed that chief technical officer, KVK Porba, Dr. Rinku spoke on various cultivation technique of vegetables like onion, cabbage, tomato and Naga chillies, and fruits like kiwi, persimmon and strawberry, while SDAO Dr. Imtionen spoke on uses of bio fertilisers and bio agents, which are readily available in Medziphema, besides demonstrating on how to use trigo cards and trichoderma.

Horticulture officer, HRF, Senti Longchar, also gave a demonstration on cultivation techniques of oyster mushroom and its health benefits to about 100 trainees who attended the programme.

Free seeds and trichoderma species, which were contributed by SDAO, Pfutsero, were given away to the participants. The organisers also assured the trainees to provide mushroom spawns when its season comes, informed the update.
