
DIMAPUR — The first phase training for presiding officers and polling personnel for the upcoming general election to the Lok Sabha in different districts of Nagaland began on Thursday.
The training for polling personnel under 19 Phek Assembly Constituency was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Phek.
During the training, the master trainers instructed the polling personnel to fully understand the rules laid down by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and also be familiar about the usage of the EVM and VVPAT. They also highlighted the roles and duties each presiding officers and polling officers at the polling stations, importance to read the annexure to fill up the forms, stated a DIPR report.
Polling officials were also demonstrated on setting up of polling station, arrangement of voting compartment for voters, conduct of mock poll and providing facilities for the senior citizens and persons with disability.
The first phase training for presiding officers and 1st polling officers was also held at Peren town on Tuesday. The training was conducted in two sessions at three different venues namely Peren town hall, PTWWO hall and Old Catholic Church building.
Briefing the polling personnel, the deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO) of Peren, Vineet Kumar, advised them to have a thorough understanding of the election procedures. He also stressed on the importance of attending training programmes and to asked question without hesitation in case of doubts.
In his short speech, the ADC of Peren, Japheth Woch, appealed to the trainees to get well acquainted with the machines and election process. He encouraged all the polling personnel to discharge their assigned duties sincerely and efficiently.
In the morning session, training was imparted on the duties and responsibilities, postal ballot and election duty certificate (EDC), while in the afternoon session, the officials were given demonstration of EVM and VVPAT.
More than 500 officials were trained on the first day of the training.
On March 27, training for 2nd polling officers would be conducted at Peren town hall, while the training for 3rd polling officers (male) would be conducted at PTWWO hall (ground floor) and the 3rd polling officers (female) at PTWWO hall (upper floor).
Training for polling personnel were also conducted in Kiphire, Tuensang and Tseminyu on Tuesday.
Training for polling personnel under Pfutsero sub-division would held on March 27 at GHSS Pfutsero from 9 am onward. Similar training for polling personnel and Grade -IV/ MTS in Mokokchung would be held on March 27 and 28 at Mayangnokcha GHSS, Mokokchung, from 9:30 am.
