Training for farmers conducted in Kiphire and Tuensang

[caption id="attachment_266885" align="alignnone" width="550"] Farmers pose for a group photo during training on propagation and plant protection management of tree bean organised by ATMA Tsaru block.[/caption] Dimapur, Aug. 20 (EMN): Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longmatra block in Kiphire district conducted training and demonstration on Oyster mushroom cultivation at Sangtsoze village on August 12 targeting women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and inauguration of pineapple farm school at Sanphure villages on August 16. A press release from ATMA Longmatra block stated that ATM, Tsungrozen demonstrated and deliberated on the benefits of mushroom cultivation and its contribution in elevating the economic status of the family. Mushroom spawns were distributed at the end of the programme to the beneficiaries. During the inauguration of pineapple farm school, Tetsangmong was appointed as the farm teacher. BTM, Moakumzuk highlighted on the functions of ATMA and concept of farm school and the role of the farm teacher. He also emphasised on the economic benefits of pineapple farming. Farmers’ groups were also mobilised and seed money was handed over to the SHGs during the programme. Altogether, 38 farmers along with ATMA functionaries attended the programme. In a related programme, ATMA Tsaru block in Tuensang district inaugurated a piggery farm school at Tronger village on August 17 by BTM, Dr. T Arenmongla. Speaking at the inaugural programme, she highlighted on the concept of farm school. Mulingmong Sangtam was appointed as farm teacher along with 10 other progressive farmers as farm students. A press release from Tsaru block, ATMA Tuensang, stated that trainings and demonstrations as well as mobilisation of farmers groups were also conducted on the same day. Thritiba Sangtam, BTT convenor of Tsaru block, spoke on “Avenue of backyard piggery enterprise” and “Pig feeds formulation and pig care.” Resource person Khatemenla, ATM, gave a training on “Propagation and plant protection management of tree bean (Parkia spp), while another resource person Tiyongnaro made a demonstration on “Small scale composting of pig manure,” Imlinukshi, ATM, presented a demonstration on “Uses of bio-fertilisers.” Resource person, Dr. T Arenmongla gave a training on “Preparation of potato chips” Mobilisation of farmers group was also conducted where five new SHG groups under the nomenclature “Amiili SHG” and “Ajengcho SHG” from Trongar village, “Lisela SHG” and “Alongdi SHG” from Longkhetpeh village and “Threzeh SHG” from Tonglongsor village were mobilised and a revolving fund of INR 10,000 each to Amiili SHG and Lisela SHG were deposited in their account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Inputs for farm school as well as bio-fertilisers were given to the farmers. Altogether, 43 farmers from three villages along with ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
