Speaking at the brief programme, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Meren Chenth, recalled that the improvised traffic control system was first introduced on July 25, 2023, under the NCAP initiative.
He added that this year they submitted a micro action plan proposing the installation of traffic signal lights at two additional locations, along with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) CCTV cameras at key junctions to monitor traffic flow more effectively.
He informed that the NCAP committee has approved their proposal, enabling the installation of the new traffic lights, while the installation of CCTV cameras will be taken up at a later stage.
Chenth expressed appreciation to the commissioner of police for providing crucial inputs and guidance throughout the installation process. He also acknowledged the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, who serves as chairman of the NCAP implementation committee, for consistently supporting their efforts.
He stated that the traffic light system, along with the proposed ANPR CCTV cameras, is a step toward reducing the carbon footprint caused by vehicle emissions, which can be mitigated through effective traffic decongestion.
