KOHIMA — The ‘trade embargo’ in Naga areas of Manipur enforced by the United Naga Council (UNC) will continue in the absence of any positive response from the central government, UNC president NG Lorho said on Tuesday.

The embargo, which came into effect from midnight of September 8, will remain in force until further notice.

According to the UNC, the agitation was launched after repeated representations, rallies, and demonstrations against the government of India’s unilateral abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing in Naga areas, remained unresolved.

The decision to impose the embargo was taken during the UNC presidential council meeting held on August 11, 2025.
