IMPHAL, February 20
Several more organizations in Manipur have strongly reacted to Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang’s comment on the issue integration of Naga inhabited areas and also on the passing of the three bills. On February 14 in Ukhrul, T R Zeliang had termed the three bills as ‘anti-tribal bills’.
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at a function near Imphal on Saturday said the comment of Zeliang was ‘irresponsible.’
Gaikhangam asked the Nagaland Chief Minister to work for the “betterment of his own state first”.
United Committee, Manipur (UCM) has also expressed unhappiness over the comment of T R Zeliang.
UCM president Johnson Elangbam speaking to media persons here on Saturday said that the February 6 mass public rally in Imphal clearly showed that people ‘stand to face’ any consequence while protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Earlier, on February 15, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) had slammed Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang for calling three ILP Bills passed by the Manipur Assembly as ‘Unconstitutional and anti-tribal.’
Ratan urged the Manipur government to take appropriate action against TR Zeliang for his ‘unfounded’ remarks. He said TR Zeliang’s speech was irrational and that he should aware of the fact that he is a leader of the Nagaland state where ILP is still in force.
“TR Zeliang who visited Manipur to participate in the festival should know that the Bills do not infringe upon the interests of the Manipur tribal community and that the contents of these Bills are not unconstitutional either,” Ratan insisted.
