Dimapur, Oct. 7 (EMN): Leader of opposition, TR Zeliang, has condoled the demise of Natwar Thakkar, popularly known as Natwar Bhai, who breathed his last on October 7 at Apollo International Hospital, Guwahati.
Born in the year 1932 in the coastal Dahanu town in Maharashtra, Zeliang recounted that Natwar migrated and settled in Nagaland at the age of 23 year working for social causes. Natwar founded the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram in Chuchuyimlang village under Mokokchung district.
Zeliang stated that Natwar Thakkar was instrumental in imparting various vocational training to the local youth. He has attributed the efforts of Natwar towards establishing an extension centre of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology at Chuchuyimlang village in 2006.
“A true follower of the Gandhian principles, he exemplified these principles through his selfless deeds throughout his life,” Zeliang stated adding he was conferred
Padma Shree award in the year 1999 for his tireless service by the Government of India. Zeliang also stated that Natwar was conferred the Indira Gandhi Award for national integration in the year 1994 for his endeavour towards emotional integration through voluntary social service.
In a condolence message to Lentina Ao and children, Zeliang has expressed grief and sorrow on the demise and prayed to the Almighty God to grant the solace in their hour of grief. He has further prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
BJP: State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed sorrow on the demise of Natwar Thakkar, who passed away on October 7 in Guwahati at 7 am.
BJP media cell stated that Natwar founded the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang village in Mokokchung district and was named Nagaland’s Gandhi for his efforts to spread Gandhian philosophy.
The state BJP president, Temjen Imna Along, on behalf of the all rank and file of the party, has conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
