Toyota-IDAN CSR initiative delivers ALS ambulances, medical equipment and school assets to strengthen healthcare and education across six Nagaland districts.

DIMAPUR — Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances were handed over to four healthcare centres and medical equipment distributed to 11 health institutions across Nagaland on Thursday under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership between Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. and government of Nagaland, facilitated by Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).
The asset handing over and flagging off ceremony was held at Zone Niathu by the Park, Chümoukedima, in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, IDAN Chairman Abu Metha and representatives of Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
The initiative covers six districts—Kohima, Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Tseminyu and Zunheboto—and focuses on strengthening essential healthcare infrastructure and improving educational facilities through a structured CSR framework.

Under the healthcare component, ALS ambulances were provided to four healthcare centres, along with critical medical and non-medical equipment supplied to 11 health institutions, including Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, District Hospital Dimapur, CHC Niuland, CHC Viswema, CHC Chiephobozou, CHC Pughoboto, PHC Kohima Village, PHC Sechu Zubza, PHC Chümoukedima, PHC Tesophenyu and PHC Ghathashi.

The education component supported two selected government schools as pilot projects with furniture, sports equipment and kitchen items aimed at improving the learning environment.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Rio described the event as “highly significant for the state” and expressed appreciation to Toyota Kirloskar Motor for its continued partnership.
He noted that Toyota’s contributions to the state have been consistent over the years, particularly in youth development through sports and games, and recalled the company’s support during the Hornbill Festival, where vehicles were provided for distinguished guests.

Highlighting Nagaland’s relationship with Japan, Rio said the bond is rooted in history, cultural ties and growing cooperation in development, education and peace initiatives. He mentioned that the partnership was further strengthened during the tenure of former Japanese Ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki, particularly through initiatives such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project.
He also said academic and employment exchanges have further strengthened ties between Nagaland and Japan. He said that Japanese language has been introduced at Nagaland University with teachers supported by the Japanese government, and that several Naga youths have secured employment opportunities in Japan, including placements in reputed companies.

Rio also said Nagaland’s literacy rate has risen from 22% at the time of statehood in 1963 to 96% at present, which he described as among the highest in the country. However, he acknowledged the need to improve the quality of education in interior and remote areas and appealed to Toyota to continue CSR initiatives, particularly in ENPO and other backward regions.
Patton said the initiative strengthens healthcare and education across the identified districts and thanked Toyota Kirloskar Motor for its partnership with the state through IDAN. He said the assets handed over are public assets meant for daily service and urged beneficiary departments to ensure proper maintenance and utilisation.
Metha said the project marked the completion of a structured CSR partnership between Toyota Kirloskar Motor and the government of Nagaland.
