Kohima, Feb. 18 (EMN): The chief secretary of Nagaland, Temjen Toy, flagged off the Startup India Nagaland Yatra of 2019, at the Secretariat in Kohima, on February 18. The event was organised by the department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with Invest India, ministry of Industries and Commerce.
Briefing media persons, the chief secretary expressed confidence that the programme would be successful in Nagaland as the state is abundant in skilled and talented youngsters. He hoped that the campaign would be a platform for youngsters to be equipped with ‘the knowledge of self reliance’ and entrepreneurship.
Toy said that the main objective of the campaign was to pave way for youths in the field of entrepreneurship. It will be conducting boot camps at various educational centres, where the participants will be in training; “ideation workshops” and idea pitching sessions.
The chief secretary informed about the state government’s decision to assist financially ‘despite the financial constraint,’ in the interest of the youths. He asked the media fraternity to highlight the positive aspects and developments of the programmes that are being conducted across the state.
Further, Toy mentioned that various prizes were set to be offered after the ‘yatra’: The ‘hero of the state’ will get INR one lakh. Other monetary prizes are also slated to be given for innovative ideas in social, agriculture, technology; and for top women entrepreneurs, it was informed.
Toy told the media that the main objective of the programme was to promote information about developing entrepreneurship, among young students, with the assistance and guidance provided by the central government.
Selected students will be “incubated,” nurtured and encouraged to start its own enterprises, additional inputs from the DIPR stated.
The officer was quoted by the DIPR as having referred to the high potentiality of the youths in Nagaland. ‘They are highly intelligent and qualified to set up their own enterprises.
However, the state being a salaried economy with no alternative source of income to rely on, our youth solely depend on government jobs,’ he said. ‘Though, we are blessed with talents yet we don’t have proper guidance and assistance.’
The officer expressed optimism that the ongoing campaign would give a tremendous boost to the upcoming generation to set up their own enterprises.
The commissioner-secretary for Industries & Commerce, Lithrongla G Chishi said that the programme, which was started in 2016, had been implemented in other parts of the country.
The officer asserted the importance of the media in disseminating information about the programme ‘in order to catch up with the rest of the country.’
Further, Chishi said that the policy has a vision to arm the youths of the state in the basics of self-reliance and entrepreneurship. She expressed gratitude to the government of Nagaland for being ‘gracious enough to come to the project aide by contributing financially for the common good of the youths of Nagaland.’
