Kohima, Nov. 27 (EMN): C Apok Jamir, parliamentary secretary of Tourism, has inaugurated the Dzüleke Tourist Information Centre in Dzüleke village under Kohima district on November 27. The information centre was set up under the initiatives of North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), funded by Tata Trust.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamir stated that tourism is one of the biggest potential in Nagaland in order to provide livelihood to the community. With the availability of the potentials, he, however, reminded of their responsibilities to maintain balance in growth.
He said tourism has three major aspects to look into i.e. social progress, economic development, and protection of environment and climate changes. Mentioning that tourism is one of the biggest and fastest growing industry in the world, he encouraged the community to take the advantages and make it one of the hotspot for ecotourism and also for their economic sustainability. He also urged the community to set a proper guideline to preserve the nature and environment.
He further impressed upon the people to take responsibility in protecting the environment so that “our future generation are benefitted from the responsibility we have done today.”
Sentimongla Kechuchar, NEIDA, said the project started in 2013 under livelihood and sustainable eco-tourism. Stating that conservation of forest and nature alone cannot sustain in the long run, she has encouraged eco-tourism in order to enable the community earn their livelihood.
Kechuchar hoped that the initiative would set a benchmark for other villages to embark on eco-tourism.
She also informed that the agency would set up the next project at Fakhim under Tuensang and Thanamir under Kiphire district.
Avi Khate, chairman of Dzüleke Eco-tourism Board (DETB), stated that with the guide and support of NEIDA, the DETB was formed in October 30, 2014, while the forest conservation started in 1999 with the view to protected the ecology.
Earlier, the parliamentary secretary also unveiled the monolith.
