Since the past many years, the CorCom claimed that it had been protesting the alleged annexation of Manipur into the Indian Union on October 15 1949 on the ground that the then Manipur King was forced to sign the merger agreement under duress. T
he day had been observing on October 15 as ‘National Black Day’ every year.
Major business establishments and streets in Imphal including the two main markets in the city, Thangal and Paona bazaar besides other markets in and around Imphal, remained closed for the day in response to the day’s shutdown.
All forms of transports like the inter-state and district transports services were suspended. Educational institutes both government and private also remained closed.
The functioning of government offices were also affected.
In some district headquarters it was reported normal activities were not affected except transport services.
The state authority has taken up necessary security measures in and around the state capital to prevent any unwanted incident during the shutdown.
