Dimapur, Dec. 9 (EMN): School Education Minister Tokheho Yepthomi has on Dec. 9 given a commitment to sponsor a laptop for every secondary student of government higher secondary school at Purana Bazaar in Dimapur, which was upgraded to a secondary institution. He has further assured to adopt the government higher secondary school at Singrijan and Purana Bazaar ‘if he continues to hold the School Education portfolio’ in the next election.
The legislator made this commitment at the inauguration programme of Government Higher Secondary School, Purana Bazaar on December 9 at Government High School, Purana Bazaar.
“In Dimapur district there is an excess of 400 teachers in government schools. Also in a particular school there are 17 teachers for 11 students,” pointed out Yepthomi.
While asserting that the proxy system was hampering the department due to transportation/ road connectivity problem, Yepthomi said the department had purchased 47 Gypsies with a budget of INR three crore in order to ease the issue.
The legislator also pointed out that the benefits for the disabled students at government schools amounting to INR 15 crore for 2011 still remain unutilised. Yepthomi also commented on the lack of development of Purana Bazaar wherein he stated that Purana Bazaar receives the highest amount from the government under the MGNREGA yet the area still lacks in development.
The newly upgraded Government Higher Secondary School at Purana Bazaar was established in 1961 and was taken over by the government in 1978.
