Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): Tobu area students’ union (Tasu) has directed all the teachers, who are not at their respective place of posting under Tobu area to either resign or make necessary arrangement for transfer within next four months.
The union has issued this directive following a resolution passed by its 13 federating units not to entertain any more proxy teaching starting from next academic session.
In a joint press release, Tasu president Sangti Konyak and the general secretary L Davidson Konyak stated that its officials had visited of 21 Government Primary Schools, 7 Government Middle Schools and 2 Government High Schools as part of educational tour. During the tour, the union observed that 30-35 percent of the teachers have kept proxy teachers, who mostly high school drop-outs. To its dismay, the union officials also observed that majority of the schools could cover only 20-30 percent of the syllabus. Besides, the officials found shortage of Mathematics, Science and Hindi teachers in Government High Schools.
The union also alleged that headmaster of Government High School in Tobu, who joined the office in the year 2014, was found to have attended the office only once. Citing such instance as an insult to the people of Tobu area, the union asked the department concerned to immediate suspend him and depute new headmaster at the earliest if the department is really serious about imparting quality education and smooth functioning of government schools in remote area like Tobu.
The union further reminded all teachers, who are undergoing training with approval from the education department, to submit the approval letter along with all the supporting documents to its office on or before October 30 as the union has decided conduct recruitment of substitute teachers for the next academic session.
