KOHIMA, JUNE 4
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Dr TM Lotha has said that the state of Nagaland has ample scope for promotion and development of tourism if proper infrastructure was provided.
Interacting with officials of the Tourism department at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Dr. Lotha shared ideas about how tourism could be harnessed to develop the state and prosper the tourism sector itself.
The parliamentary secretary, however, said Nagaland had fewer tourism infrastructures. He stressed on the importance of upgrading existing tourism infrastructure and creation of more facilities for areas that show a potential for tourism. Dr. Lotha also urged the department to give top priority to ‘advertisements to attract more tourists to the state.’
Dr Lotha also explained a need for urgency in shifting the present directorate of Tourism from the town areas to the secretariat site. He said that the offices of all the directorates were located near the Secretariat except the Tourism department. “Having a directorate office in the town area far away from the Secretariat is not only hindering the working process but is proving more problematic due to traffic jams in Kohima,” the parliamentary secretary.
Commissioner & Secretary for Tourism Himato Zhimomi expressed confidence that they would be able to work effectively with the new parliamentary secretary for Tourism and assured full cooperation to him.
Director of Tourism P. Angami also spoke during the occasion. Other high ranking officials from the tourism department also attended the meeting with the parliamentary secretary.
