Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network to celebrate Chengu Festival 5.0
Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network (TVBCLN), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Conservation International, Value Network Ventures and TERI, will organise the 5.0 edition of Chengu Festival
- DIMAPUR — The
Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network (TVBCLN), in
collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Conservation International, Value
Network Ventures and TERI, will organise the 5.0 edition of Chengu Festival on
February 25 in Kivikhu village under Zunheboto district with Multi Task Media
as media partner.
- An update from the organisation stated that the festival, on
theme "Conserving the cultural and natural heritage," aims to promote
Nagaland's rich cultural heritage and biodiversity. The event would showcase
various Naga indigenous games and competitions including traditional war dance,
thishole, thighale, winnowing rice competition for women and traditional
fire-making for men.
- Veyielo Doulo, director of Tourism, Government of Nagaland,
would attend the event as the special guest, while Dr. T Yetovi Tuccu, joint
director of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, would deliver
keynote address.
- A community interactive session, declaration of essay
competition on the theme and prize distribution would be part of the festival.
- It mentioned that Chengu Festival, literally means
biodiversity festival, is an initiative aimed at promoting the preservation of
biodiversity hotspots in the region. The festival seeks to create a mass
awareness campaign, highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainable
use of biological resources.
- The first Chengu Festival, also known as the Great Barbet
Festival, was held in January 2019, organized by the Tizu Valley Biodiversity
Conservation and Livelihood Network (TVBCLN) in Kivikhu, Sukhai and Ghukhuyi
Villages under Satakha circle of Zunheboto.
- "We are excited to host the 5.0 Edition of Chengu
Festival 2025, which celebrates the unique cultural heritage and biodiversity
of Nagaland," said Ivan Zhimomi, organiser of the festival.
- Meanwhile, the organisers have invited everyone to join in
the celebration and promote the preservation of rich cultural and natural
resources.
