Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): The Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) has decided to “relax” their proposed blockade on the Namtola-Mon road for a period of one month. The relaxation is with effect from the 12th of April, the union informed in a press release to the media on Tuesday.
“The Tizit Area Students Union (TASU) in consultation with its federating units and general public on the request of the deputy commissioner, Mon and the Konyak Union Mon HQ assurance to take up the TASU’s demand list collectively against the press release issued on 11th April 2017 by the commissioner and Secretary, works & housing, Nagaland: Kohima have decided to relax the Namtola-Mon road blockade for a period of one month w.e.f 12 April 2017.”
The organisation has ‘unanimously decided to continue its road blockade more intensely’ in the event of failure by the state government in fulfilling the demands submitted in the ultimatum, within one month period.
“The following demands are once again reminded to the state govt: To start construction of all weather Namtola-Mon road; to start construction of Tizit-Namtola (Pongma River) RCC bridge; to complete Tizit Nokyan road (13 Km PM’s package, 2004-2015); to start NEC (Tizit-Longding) Road repairing works; to complete ISC road (Tizit-Nokzang); to start construction of GHSS building Tizit,” the press release stated.
The TASU added that that the “one day Namtola-Mon road blockade” was peaceful.
“All the federating students’ unit from 28 villages and hundreds of general public participated in the road blockade in support of TASU demand list. Students from GHSS and other schools also participated to express their solidarity in support of the union’s demand to the state government. The road blockade continued from 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday,” the union added.
