Kohima, Feb. 9: The Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) Kohima on Thursday made its stand clear that dialogues and amicable solution that the Chief Minister TR Zeliang suggested are over.
NTAC media cell issued a press release today, which reads, “The only option to bring normalcy to the chaotic situation now depends on the wisdom of TR Zeliang. The demand is to step down on moral ground from office because this is the only rationality that will ease the loss of lives, injuries and destruction of properties that had taken place as fallout of the TR Zeliang’s cabinet treachery.”
The organisation also stated whether Zeliang enjoys the support of the majority of MLAs or not, whether he joins any other political party is not their look-out.
“But what the Tribal Hohos demand is that TR Zeliang steps down from the office of the Chief Minister for causing three deaths, leaving many injured and burning down of several offices. Therefore, it is absurd and stupidity on the part of TR Zeliang and his cohorts to condone off their crime behind whimsical reasons such as numerical support of MLAs since the issue is not a floor test of the Assembly,” the NTAC release stated.
It also asserted that the issue at hand is also not a constitutional matter but “a plain moral issue of owning it and acting upon it.”
“What is more dangerous to the generation to come is that TR Zeliang continuing in office will tantamount to defeat of all sensibility respect to human lives, social responsibility and democratic values. It is a defeat of all civil rationality,” the NTAC reasoned. It further reminded that “the clock is ticking” for the end of the deadline for Zeliang to step down honourably.
Upon the expiry of the deadline, it stated, the people of the state will be left with “no other option but resort to the most extreme step and the consequences arising out of it will be borne by TR Zeliang and his cabinet.”
JCC, NTAC appeal
The JCC and the NTAC Kohima, while expressing gratitude to all the tribal hohos, organisations and individuals for their support and cooperation “in the people’s move for justice for the Nagas,” once again appealed to all sections of the society to bear with the inconveniences caused during the course of “this Naga movement”.
The two bodies also appealed to all the government servants, educational institutions and the general public who have been directly affected by the movement, to bear with the inconveniences caused during the past few days.
They requested the educational institutions to cater to the problems of the parents of school going children in admissions or any other related matters
“In accordance with the resolution passed at the Coordination Meeting held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at APO Hall, Kohima, to continue with the movement till we achieve our demands within the stipulated time, the general public is once again requested to bear with the inconveniences,” a release from the JCC and NTAC stated.
Informing that the future course of action would be intimated if their demands were not met, it further sought cooperation from all in sustaining their movement.
