DIMAPUR — Tikhir community on Tuesday organised a log drum pulling ceremony at the ongoing Hornbill Festival in Kisama.
The log drum was brought from Pokphur village located near 139th pillar along the Indo-Myanmar international border. Visitors and tourists joined in the log drum pulling ceremony.
A DIPR report stated that log drum plays a significant role in Tikhir community in the olden days. They believed log drum to be a symbol of victory, prosperity, truthfulness and also considered it as an epitome or monument of warfare.
During the preparation of log drum in the deep jungle, the leader first selects a tree and makes a cut mark. It was believed that if fresh leaves fall from the selected trunk it indicates longevity and prosperity and if dry leaves fall it indicates misfortune for the community.
In the tradition of the Tikhir Naga, the log drum becomes more than a wooden artefact; it transforms into a guardian of the people and a symbol of their collective spirit.
