Tikhir Tribal Council issues ultimatum to ENPO over Mark Morekiu’s selection as interim FNTA council member, citing eligibility concerns
DIMAPUR — The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) has issued an ultimatum to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), demanding that it ensure strict adherence to its prescribed eligibility criteria in the selection of the community’s interim council member to the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).
In a representation, the council called on the ENPO to intervene in the selection of Mark Morekiu, alleging that objections to his eligibility, including remarks he had previously made and alleged pending legal cases, were raised during the selection process but remained unresolved.
The selection was held on March 10, 2026, under the core eligibility criteria framed by the ENPO. However, according to the TTC, the process proceeded on the basis of a majority decision rather than strict compliance with the prescribed criteria, resulting in Morekiu being forwarded as the sole candidate for consideration.

It stated that despite several appeals and representations submitted to the ENPO seeking intervention, concerns raised over the candidate’s eligibility had not been satisfactorily addressed—leading to confusion, misunderstandings and divisions within the Tikhir community.
The council urged the ENPO to ensure that the selection was conducted fairly and transparently, in accordance with its own criteria and directives, in the interest of justice and unity within the community.
It warned that, unless the matter was resolved promptly, they would approach the appropriate competent authority for intervention without further notice.
