Dimapur, September 24: Thungti Chang and Sanüzolü Nakro were declared winners of the 2nd Kalos Peace Marathon in the men’s and women’s category held today in Pfutsero and awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively. The peace marathon was conducted under the aegis of Kalos in collaboration with 9th Assam Rifles on the theme ‘Run for peace and unity.’
In the 21 km peace marathon for men, Chikong Chang was declared runners-up and Tsole Yhokha as the second runners. They were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 7000 and Rs 5000 respectively, while in the 15 km for women, Neilhiwe-ü Mero and Weche-ü Lasushe were declared second and third winners respectively and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 respectively.
Altogether, 251 participants from 29 villages in Phek district including seven tribes from different parts of Nagaland and nine states of India participated in the event.
Col. Rajat Tyagi, Commandant of 9th Assam Rifles, flagged off the race for
men’s category at Chida Post junction, while the women’s category was flagged off by Ketshengupe Losou at Lasumi marketing shed.
Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) president Welete Kapfo, PTCWF president Murhasayi Murao and Chongtham Satyaranjan, 2nd-in-command, chief medical officer 9th Assam Rifle spoke at the prize distribution ceremony.
The prize distribution ceremony was chaired by Kalos Society director Kupelhi Losou while vote of thanks was proposed by Kalos Society secretary Zechelo Wetsah.
