
DIPHU — More than 500 houses were damaged after heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several areas of Nilip and Duarbagori constituencies in Karbi Anglong district on the night of April 16.
Villagers said rain and thunderstorms hit several areas including Panjan, Chokihola and Tokolangso, damaging houses and rendering many families homeless.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The uprooted trees snapped power lines and blocked roads for several hours affecting vehicular movement.
Betel nut trees and rubber plants in several rubber farms were damaged and there also reports of cattle deaths. Villagers have given a rough estimate of 500 families affected by the heavy rain but the number may go up.
The worst affected areas were Poisa Ingti village, Sam Hanse village, Asot Rongpi village,Rechomili, Bhitor Kalioni, Hirhiri, and Sangtilangso. The affected villagers are waiting for relief from the government.
Meanwhile, the affected families have urged Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang; MLA Dr. Numal Momin and Nilip Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Pobitra Rongpi to visit the affected areas.
