DIMAPUR: Reaffirming its earlier resolution, the Land Owners’ Board comprising three villages namely Ungma, Mokokchung and Khensa in Mokokchung district stated that elections to urban local bodies (ULB) would be banned within its jurisdiction until and unless the state government rectify/ amend all sections and clauses regarding land and building tax under Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001.
The resolution to this effect was taken during its general meeting held on March 16 to discuss on the issue of Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 and ULB elections, an update issued by sessional chairman, Imkum Pongen, and the secretary, Imlikumzuk, said.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]“The indigenous land holding rights of the Aos which has been secured through the blood and toil of our ancestors is safeguarded by Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution,” the statement read.
To ensure that those rights are not compromised in any manner whatsoever, the Land Owners’ Board of the three villages has decided to ban holding of ULB election until and unless the state government rectify/ amend all sections and clauses regarding land and building tax under Nagaland Municipal Act 2001.
