Imphal, June 3 (EMN): Three Assam Rifles personnel were injured in an bomb attack along the road leading to Manipur’s border commercial town Moreh which is popularly known as India’s gateway to South East Asia on Saturday.
The incident took place when a powerful suspected to be improvised explosive device was exploded when a team of 11 Assam Rifles who are on road opening patrol, passed an area along the Imphal-Moreh road, about 95 km south of Imphal around 2.15 in the afternoon, reports said.
The injured Assam Rifles personnel identified as Subedar Sher Ram, Riflemen Sachina and Basumatary have been airlifted for the military hospital for treatment, it added. Additional security forces rushed to the areas soon after hearing the incident and conducted search operation. However there is no report of any arrest. At the same time no armed group claimed responsibility for the incident till filing of this report.
The day’s incident occurred days after the state authority constituted a committee to study the recent increase in the incidents of bomb blasts, ambush on security forces and killing of civilians in Moreh and nearby areas.
The seven member Committee headed by Additional DGP Manipur police Pramod Asthana as Chairman, will study the circumstances and reasons behind these incidences and to recommend remedial measures to maintain peace and tranquillity in the area. Besides the committee which is scheduled to submit its report within 15 days, shall find groups or individuals responsible for such incidents based on the inputs from various security agencies and public interaction.
