The three-day Hornbill Carnival got underway today at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (Green Circle) under the theme ‘Bamboo Food, Art and Music’.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, Advisor, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) Naiba Konyak stressed on the multi uses of bamboo and lauded the government for giving opportunity to the rural people by recognizing bamboo as agro forestry plant.
He also disclosed that NBDA is trying to include the subject of bamboo in school curriculum to enable the children to be aware about the uses/benefits of bamboo. He expressed with pride that NBDA is the best in India and the second in the world.
“Bamboo Carnival is on to its third year, it would continue in the coming years too”, he informed.
APC and Mission Director NBDA, Imkonglemba (IAS) in his brief introductory note felt that North East Region should work on bamboo as an alternative especially to Jhum cultivation to replenish the destruction of forest by introducing bamboo cultivation.
He encouraged and reminded the bamboo entrepreneurs about the potentiality of bamboo market and stressed on the need to bring in more technological concept.
“If we are to market our bamboo outside the NER need to think in terms of quantity/quality”, he maintained.
Marking 10 years of existence of Bamboo Agency a decadal issue of Bamboo Infomag was also released by the chief guest along with the Mission Director.
Highlights of the day included cultural dance by Showuba cultural troupe and special song by Patkai voice ensemble.
Earlier, Associate Pastor, CRC, Sovima and Principal, Hope Institute of Technology invoked God’s blessings.
NBDA member, compeered the programme while Team Member NBDA, Shakiba Yim proposed the vote of thanks.
A DIPR report said, a number of stalls selling attractive bamboo products are put up, representing various NER including Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam besides another attraction of the bamboo carnival would be the music concert to start every evening at 4 p.m with accomplished musicians taking the stage. The Hornbill Carnival which was inaugurated today would culminate on December 6.
