Three persons have been arrested by enforcement personnel of Kohima after police found 100 kilograms of cannabis, or ganja, from the vehicle they were travelling in. The police issued a press release on Thursday informing about the catch.
On November 19, Kohima police manning the Khuzama inter-state check gate stopped a Tata mobile bearing the registration AS-01EC-8911, chassis number of MAT374466D9E14004, and the engine number of 497SP38EWY629317.
On searching the vehicle, the enforcement personnel found 100 kilograms of ganja neatly packed in ten packets.
The vehicle had a tag ‘Army Duty’ on the windshield, the police said. Another registration plate bearing WB-57B-1782 was found during the search made on the vehicle, the police added.
The police have arrested three persons in this connection: one Monuwar Hussain, a 23 year old man from Guwahati in Assam; an Atikur Samad, a 23 year old man from Murshidabad district of West Bengal; one Md. Rafique Hussain, a 29 year old man from Kamrup district of Assam. They have been taken into police custody and charged with possession and transportation of the contraband.
“In this connection a regular case vide Khuzama PS Case No 0047/15 U/S 20 (b)(ii)(c) NDPS Act is registered against them for conducting further investigation,” the press release added.
