Dimapur, June 17 (EMN): Three personnel of the 40th Assam Rifles (AR) were killed in an ambush by cadres of the NSCN (K) on Sunday during a routine patrol some 3 km away from Aboi town in Mon district.
Sources from Mon town said that the AR team were travelling with some Territorial Army personnel when they came under attack at around 4.30 pm. The armed NSCN (K) cadres lobbed three grenades at the AR truck, it was reported.
Sources informed that one soldier died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on the way. The third reportedly died at the hospital. It was reported some of the injured were in critical condition.
Police have also recovered an unexploded grenade from the site of the incident.
A statement from the NSCN (K) claimed that the group was behind the attack.
