Mokokchung, Sep. 27 (EMN): Mokokchung Police arrested three persons in connection with extortion during the area domination exercise near Longkong road junction on September 26.
Police reported that the three persons were involved in extortion from vehicles on the highway and recovered a total sum of INR 20992, a bike and 3 mobile phones from their possession. The arrested persons have been identified as Ningreiso, an alleged captain NSCN (IM) of Laho village under Ukhrul district of Manipur and presently residing in Lijabalejen; Redeemson, alleged corporal of NSCN (IM) of Ukhrul village and presently residing in Lijabalejen; and Temsujungla of Longsa village presently residing in Kumlong.
Police stated that a case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Mokokchung District Truck Owners’ Association (MDTOA) has drawn the attention of the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung pertaining to extortion being carried out unauthorised persons on goods laden vehicles along NH 702 D and NH-61 coming from Jorhat to Mokokchung, Tuensang, and Zunheboto.
The association has sought the intervention of the deputy commissioner for necessary action against the extortion of money from the trucks carrying goods to Nagaland from Jorhat.
