Mokokchung, June 6: A summer camping event is being organized for children in Mokokchung that organizers say is the ‘first of its kind in Mokokchung.’ Local group The Woods and Treehouse Prep School are collaborating on a summer camp at The Woods in Yimchalu for children from June 23 to the 25th.
“The summer camp has been envisioned with to keep the young children engrossed with their mental and physical development during the summer break on the theme ‘Pay it Forward,’ the organizers said in a press release on Monday.
The Woods is said to be located some fifteen kilometers away from Mokokchung town. It is owned by Adang Jamir, a choreographer and entrepreneur in Mokokchung. The Treehouse prep school administered by Arenla Lemtur aspires to prepare the young children for the future, the organizers said. The organizers also carried quotes from their collaborators: “I want this summer camp to motivate the young children, learn from each other and be an asset to the society,” Adang Jamir, the proprietor of The Woods is quoted to have said. “I want this to be just pure memories and fun,” he added.
Among the many activities, Adang Jamir disclosed that there would be competitions in different activities like dancing, singing, art, writing etc. There would be special lessons on swimming at The Woods swimming pool and also intensive training on life-skills. Besides, there would be church leaders to provide counseling and also lead daily devotion, since the organizers believe that moral science is a very important part in a child’s life.
“Trekking to create awareness about biodiversity, angling about the beauty of fishing and traditional games to revisit the past, everything is arranged,” said Adang.
“I want the campers to be role models, because our society needs young people, and it is up to us to train them up,” said Adang Jamir, the organizer.
