Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): From selling roses on Valentine's Day to local meat on Mother's Day, a group of women from Khehokhu village in Dimapur is leaving no stone unturned to earn with one goal: Host a Christmas feast and celebrations for all the people of the village.
Amid the lockdown and a struggling local economy, the group of 47 members took the initiative to sell 'local meat' with a 'Mother's Day Special' tag as a fund raiser to meet their goal.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Inatoli Chophi of the group said each of them contributed funds totaling INR 3000 at the beginning of the year.
"With that money, we have been doing fund raising things over the year, both at the village and away from the village," Chophi said. She said that their age group range from 20 to 35, comprising both employed and unemployed persons, and students.
'Some are students, (some) teachers, (some) nurses and some run businesses,' Chophi said.
Explaining that some of the group members were out of state and village, she said they together confront challenges by working together whenever they organise any fundraising events.
Chophi added that those who couldn't make it donated money on own will to keep the members’ morale boosted.
The meats they sell consist of pork, chicken, and duck priced at INR 300, INR 400, and INR 600 per kg respectively. She said they took the fund raiser to social media platforms for wide circulation and publicity to attract more customers.
Likewise, she said they took pre-orders on first-come-first-serve basis, and waited till Thursday night for the final orders as the sale and distribution of the meat were set to go ahead on Friday. She said they also have home delivery services for those who can’t personally come over to the village to buy the meat. She said the home delivery charge is a fixed rate of INR 100, no matter the distance and quantity of meat a customer buys.
A part of their publicity poster that was circulated on social media reads 'Shop local, eat local, spend local and enjoy local.' The same group had opened three stalls during the previous Valentine's Day to sell roses in the main town areas of Dimapur.
