Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): The office of the chief medical officer, Dimapur, on Wednesday told Eastern Mirror that it had received six thermal scanners and that Dimapur district has 10 such equipment, out of which three are being used at the city’s airport for scanning passengers.
The office said thermal scanning of visitors at three entry points -- Dillai gate, Dimapur railway station and new field check gate -- would start today, March 19, round the clock (24 hours), wherein the staff would work on eight-hour shift. Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha has also confirmed in a statement that the Dimapur Task Force in coordination with the railway authorities have made a single exit point and barricaded all other exit points at the Dimapur Railway Station to enable screening of all the arriving passengers.
The CMO office informed that the State Family Welfare Training Centre near Chümoukedima primary health centre would be used as an isolation ward. The training centre has 44 beds but the rooms can accommodate around 150 people, it informed. In addition, 10-bed isolation ward has been set up at the Dimapur District Hospital.
It was also informed that an ambulance was on reserve for suspected patients, to be picked up from their homes and bring them to the isolation ward for further testing.
However, an official from the CMO office, who wished not to be named, wondered why Nagaland did not have a Covid-19 testing centre. The official also pointed out that bio medical hazard was a serious concern but the state did not have qualified people to control it.
Another official also lamented that there were cases where house owners had prohibited their tenants, who had returned from outside Nagaland, from entering their houses, asking them to provide medical certificates from the hospital proving that they were not infected.
