DIMAPUR — Md Babul Ali, popularly known as ‘Therapist Jay,’ has been detained by Dimapur police on Tuesday for questioning in connection with allegations of practicing ayurveda without valid qualifications.
Police informed that the detention follows an FIR lodged on July 9 at West Police Station by Max Naga, administrator of the Common Public Platform, alleging that Ali has been operating an ayurveda centre in Dimapur without meeting the required legal and professional standards.
According to the complaint, Ali has been running the ‘Therapist Jay Ayurveda Centre’ at Nuton Basti without a valid trade license or registration under the Nagaland Clinical Registration Act. Allegations include misleading the public with claims of curing various ailments and issuing questionable training certificates.

The case has drawn attention from health authorities after Max Naga, along with Dr. Imlikumba from the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research, Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh), met with the chief medical officer (CMO) at the District Hospital Dimapur on July 11 to submit a copy of the FIR.
Speaking to the media at the CMO’s office at the time, Dr. Imlikumba stated that a committee has been formed by the Health Department to investigate Ali’s qualifications. He revealed discrepancies in the documents submitted by Ali, which prompted the department to initiate further scrutiny.
