Thenucho Tunyi assures support for Dimapur Railway High School ahead of its 75th anniversary celebrations

DIMAPUR — Former Nagaland Home Minister Thenucho Tunyi visited Dimapur Railway High School (DRHS) on Saturday and assured support for the welfare and development of the institution.
Tunyi was accompanied by Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Chairman of the DRHS Ex Students Forum of Nagaland, and other members of the forum.
According to a press release issued by the forum, Tunyi interacted with the school in-charge, teaching staff and alumni, during which they exchanged views and discussed issues concerning the welfare, improvement and future development of the school.
Both sides expressed their willingness to work together and extend mutual cooperation towards the development of the institution.
During the interaction, Tunyi expressed his willingness to provide guidance and support in an advisory capacity. He also assured the forum that, as a senior Naga leader, he would extend his support and intervention whenever required in matters concerning the welfare, educational interests and future prospects of students in Nagaland.
As a follow-up initiative, a delegation of the DRHS Ex Students Forum will visit the NF Railway Headquarters at Maligaon, Guwahati, to meet the general manager (GM) and principal chief personnel officer (PCPO).
The delegation will formally invite both officials to attend the forthcoming Platinum Jubilee celebration of Dimapur Railway High School.
It will also apprise them of the present condition of the school, highlight concerns regarding its deteriorating infrastructure and seek their intervention and possible support for its welfare, improvement and overall development.
Established in 1951 in Dimapur, DRHS is one of the oldest educational institutions in Nagaland. The institution was founded through the collective efforts of seven social workers and railway employees belonging to the Bengali linguistic community.
From its establishment in 1951 until 1997, the school was developed, supported and maintained through the efforts and contributions of leaders and members of the Bengali community associated with its management. Subsequently, its management was handed over to Northeast Frontier Railway, which assumed responsibility for running the institution through its railway administration.
However, the forum expressed concern over the present condition of the school's infrastructure, stating that many facilities are inadequate and that the overall infrastructure has deteriorated over the years, requiring urgent attention and intervention.
The DRHS Ex Students Forum of Nagaland stated that it has been making continuous efforts to bring these concerns to the attention of railway authorities and the government.
Meanwhile, the platinum jubilee celebration of Dimapur Railway High School, marking 75 years since its establishment in 1951, will be held from December 18 to the 20th.
The forum appealed to railway authorities, government representatives, public leaders, former students, well-wishers and concerned citizens to participate in the celebration and support efforts to preserve the school's legacy and improve its facilities.
