Mokokchung, June 14 (EMN): After a month long theatre workshop held from May 16 till June 14, the workshop concluded with the premiering of the theatrical play ‘Oshi Yim’ at Town hall in Mokokchung on June 14.
The theatre workshop was organised by Sangkeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Hills Theatre and Department of Art & Culture, Mokokchung, Nagaland.
Jadumani Singh, Director of Blooming Cultural Academy performing arts and award winning theatre practitioner, who was one of the resource persons spoke at the premier where he said that many people consider theatre, dance and music as entertainment but theatre is much more than that. He said that theatre can help preserve and display one's culture and tradition.
At the premier, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung attended as guest of honour where he thanked the Sangkeet Natak Akademi for collaborating with local artistes in promoting theatre in Nagaland. He said that theatre is a part of one’s inherent skill and a habit to express too. He also said that performing arts are ingrained in each and every individual and society and that it helps in self-realisation and self- expression.
He further went on to say that theatre and performing art is still in a very nascent age in Nagaland and that one should use various forms of theatre and art as a platform to sensitise and express oneself.
Tiakala, one of the participants at the workshop, also shared her experience as a theatre student.
‘Oshi yim( The language village)’ is directed and conceptualised by Bendang walling, with assistant director Kilangtemsu Imsong and designed by Thoudam Victor Singh.
The play is about a young dreamer leaving his village 'Oshi Yim' for a new venture to the city but the city life engulfs him because of which he decides to return to his village only to find that his own people were sinking with other language and other ways of living.
