Mokokchung, June 17 (EMN): After a successful camp during the previous year, a local resort in Mokokchung called ‘The Woods’ is ready for another summer camp at the site. It will be held from June 30 to July 2.
‘The Woods’ is a scenic resort located some 12 kilometres away from Mokokchung town and far from the madding crowd, in Yimchalu (Sungratsu) forest surrounded by verdant hills and pristine streams.
As a boy, the proprietor of ‘The Woods’, Adang Jamir, loved the outdoors and strongly believed that a child should not be confined within the safety of the four walls of their homes. For that Jamir decided to hold the summer camp for children to enjoy during their vacations.
The response to the first summer camp in 2016 was encouraging with 24 school children registering for the camp. This year, the enthusiasm both from the parents and students is said to be ‘overwhelming.’ For this, the proprietor has thoroughly renovated his resort and expanded it to accommodate more campers.
However, the number of seats has been limit to 40 campers only and registration will be on first-come-first with a fee of Rs 3000 which will cover everything for the 3-day 3-night stay. The age limit for the campers is 8-16 years. It is open to both boys and girls. The camp will be supervised by a camp director and assisted by handpicked volunteers from among the Mokokchung town citizens.
The main objective of the summer camp is stated to ‘make children come out of their comfort zones’ and to explore their surroundings other than being confined watching televisions or using computers’ and so on.
The camp intends to make children come in close contact with nature, love and appreciate biodiversity and foster friendship among and between campers. But most of all, the camp envisages making children ‘more disciplined, more refreshed and more invigorated’ as they return to their school.
Among the many activities, the campers will be introduced to various activities such as learning how to swim at the swimming pool; learn to make handicraft such as basket making, cook, make tents etc.
By popular demand, the camp will also have an ‘Amazing Race’, and trekking, angling in the freshwater streams, besides a music session and movies etc.
Preparations have been completed as The Woods awaits campers for another memorable summer. Interested parents can contact 8413884583 for further details.
